Love Letter, July 2024: Discipline + FOMO
Hello Lovely,
How is your heart feeling right now?
At this very moment my heart is feeling content, filled with compassion and curiosity. Truthfully, I’m not being as creative as I’d like to be, but I’m making sure to take time out for myself (whenever I can) for nourishing my passions.
I’m going to keep this musing short today as I’m in Athens and it’s very very hot, so I’m feeling a bit lazy and sluggish from lack of sleep and too much sun. Plus I’ve been busy socially since I arrived a month ago (which is why creativity has taken a back seat in my daily life.) When I say creativity, I refer to making art, writing, drawing or playing and experimenting with my sound instruments.
Creativity however is always alive! From the music to the podcasts I choose to listen to, the books I read, what I wear and how I dress.
There have been a few times where I’ve had creative intentions but I’ve become easily distracted. Discipline is not my strength at the moment and FOMO (fear of missing out) has been a regular visitor in my psyche.
One of the practices that I’ve been doing daily is intuitive oracle card readings. It brings a creative approach to starting the day and helps tackle the mental chatter that may be going on in my head. Last Sunday, the day was not going to plan and anxiety started to show up. As I was becoming agitated and panicky my husband intuitively reminded me of the card I pulled that morning. It was Happiness from the Goddess Dream Oracle Deck. And I quickly snapped out of my mood.
Not being in control, feeling out of control and fear of the unknown can rob us of our creativity and our intuition. Happiness on the other hand opens us up to receiving intuitive nudges that we can creatively explore.
Happiness was not found by forcing a smile and pushing through, but by feeling gratitude for the abundance of love and support that I receive. My husbands card was Abundance and he received an abundance of love from me as he was able to get the day back on track through his creative thinking.
I’ve also been developing my energy healing skills this month. Learning from Debbie and James on how to create my metaphorical medicine room and healing tools has been creatively inspiring. I’m super excited to share more of this with you later on.
Today is my birthday so I’ll be taking the next two weeks off to have a proper holiday with Manuel. We’re off to Milos on Saturday, then to Folegandros, finishing off with a night in Santorini. So I’m feeling very blessed and happy right now.
I thought I’d share with you 3 easy inexpensive ways to stay creative every day:
Object Writing - choose an object in the room and free write from an observational perspective using the object as the narrator. The other week I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and so I journaled from the perspective of the plant on the dinning table. This became an interesting creative writing piece which also helped me get out of my head.
Take 15 mins to Colour - print out a colouring sheet if you don’t have a colouring book and create a spa experience by lighting a candle, diffuse some restful essential oils, put your feet up and colour away. Put on a relaxing playlist and make a cup of tea or indulge in a glass of wine.
Go on a scavenger hunt - collect things from around the house, inside and out and play with arranging then in different ways. Grouping colours and textures or making it organised, simple or chaotic. Give yourself the freedom of playful exploration that has no outcome or perceived value. This is a fun activity to do with kids, especially during school holidays.
Big love, Jo xx
