Love Letter, April 2024: Himalaya
Dear One
How is your heart in this month?
We are collectively feeling the ripples of change. So please be mindful, and deeply compassionate towards yourself.
As I write, I’m in Kathmandu after trekking in the Himalaya with Nina Karnikwoski through World Expeditions. There is so much to share but I feel I need time to integrate this profound experience, which has definitely been influenced by the ripple of change in the cosmos.
The expedition included mindful journaling, guided by Nina, every day. I’d like to share with you a letter of love I wrote at our final writing session.
Dear Himalaya,
Thank you for holding me in your landscape of strength, softness, and stillness, It was only 7 days together but it seems like we have journeyed together for months. Our time together may have come to a close, but you will continue to live in my heart and my soul for many moons. I’m finding it difficult to gather my thoughts as there were so many special moments and challenging ones as well. But, I will try!
My favourite part of the trek was walking over the suspension bridges above the white milky Dudh Koshi River. Seeing her flow with fierce confidence, down the mountain and alongside…the salty crisp water moving with speed and slowness around and over the rocks. Reminding me how to move in life. Το flow with whatever obstacles I may encounter. The bird song encouraging me to keep walking, even though a quiet fear is treading with my dirty boots. Dust flying into my eyes, encouraging me to look up into the misty blue sky, where the snowy white mountains are holding me strong. As I was slowly overtaken by anxious thoughts of our descent through the rocky national forest, I focused on the colours that you wear. And what a beautiful reminder it was for the colour of life that I traverse. From moss green to aubergine, burnt orange, pine and umber. My favourite was the fuchsia of the blooming rhododendron flower. Blood orange, lilac, straw and ruby. The list goes on….
Thank you Himalaya for showing me how to see joy and colour amongst the hardship of struggle and self doubt. To keep going with a smile and a giggle, just like the beautiful people of this land. Go Slow Jo! is what Gupal, my Sherpa guide would tell me as we danced in rhythmic lightness down the cobbled uneven stairs. His strength infusing me…inspiring me to keep trusting myself, with a knowing that I can do whatever I put my mind to.
I Love You Himalaya.
Big love, Jo xx
